More than 160 students and faculty from Mexican universities are spending five weeks at Marshall University as part of an international exchange program.

The participants were to arrive this weekend at the school’s Huntington campus, where they’ll study the English language. The program officially begins today and runs through Dec. 5.

The visit is through an international student exchange program between the U.S. and Mexico called Proyecta 100,000.

Officials say Marshall intends to send American students to Mexico for future semesters to study Spanish as part of President Barack Obama’s 100,000 Strong initiative in Mexico.

School officials say one goal is that the Mexican students return to Marshall to enter graduate school once this program ends.

Most of the students coming to Marshall are science, technology, engineering and math students.
